What was the last wedding you went to? Were you in the wedding?
The last wedding I went to was two of years ago, the couple in question being my brother and now sister in law. I greatly enjoyed the wedding, though the socialising did drain it out of me a part.
I was an usher, and had to guide people to the optimum seating arangement, though my family didn't seem able to grasp the fact that the seats marked "Reserved" were, in fact, reserved for them and were quite content with sitting two or three rows back for their grandsons/nephews wedding.
My sister in laws grandmother was a very lovely lady who aparently still comments on me everytime the subject is bought up. There had been some problems between her and her husband for many years, and they had to be escorted and made sure not to meet for the entire wedding.
This time next week my sister will be married, from which it is safe to conclude her wedding is the next I shall be attending. I am again an usher, and am looking forward to assuring people they may indeed sit where I have told them they should sit.
I'm currently trying to wear in my new shoes (well, about two years old but only twice worn) and have a nice red tie, matching not only with my brother but also the bridesmaids. I should be looking uber smart.
It strange, though perhaps unsuprising, that it feels different this time. My sister has been away for the duration of her University education, wheras my brother was at home for a large portion of his. Everytime I see her she has changed a little, matured a little, and now she is off and getting married. Talking to my dad last night, it is obviously different for him. He is giving away his daughter. Through the teenage years the sons tend to become more distant, but come back as they grow older, bonding over a few pints in the pub. Conversly, the relationship with the daughter grows stronger, but then they are lost when they get married.
It should be a good occasion, most likely not without it's hickups, but a good day and another good memory as another of my siblings gets married and starts up a family of their own. A good day, a day of celibration, but also a day of loss.
