Many people ask me what my internet handle, "[ICR]", stands for.
To them I now give this answer:
ICR Stands For... [ccgi.atomice.plus.com]
For those of you who actualy want to know the truth, it stands for "Inanimate Carbon Rod". It comes from The Simpsons. I found it funny and so used it for my MSN screename. I had it for quite a while, before realising I got very fed up with people changing their screenname's and me not knowing who they were (this was in the days before Trillian or MSN Plus and their ability to rename contacts). To solve this I decided I would suffix all of my screennames with a constant tag, which ended up being ICR. This lead to the square bracked surrounding the anacronym.
Around this time I was also a member of a forum, and I decided it would be neat if I did the same thing there, changing my name to some cool qoute but suffixing it with a constant handle so that people would know it was me still. I did this for a few weeks, before becoming bored and just sticking to "[ICR]".
For those of you who are extra curious, my handle before "[ICR]" was "Scum 'O The Universe", which I devised when playing Quake3 against my brother on our network.
I now prefix my screename with "[ICR] - " and have a fairly constant "[ICR] - Worlds Tallest Midget", which comes from an off-hand comment in one of Ross Noble's introductions to his show. Aparently it also features in a TV series relating to farmers, but I don't know about that.
The ICR Stands For... website is designed so you can easily link to it. Feel free to link to some good one's in the comments. A special prize to anyone who can find the link to the one that says "ICR stands for Inanimate Carbon Rod".
There are a couple of things relating to this blog itself that I considered posting on, but didn't feel warrented a post to themselves. So I've grouped them together.
Firstly, the name of the blog. It comes from Alice in Wonderland, an absolutely fantastic book. The Mad Hatter comments to Alice that it is, in fact, quite easy to take more than nothing.
And that's exactly what this blog is. More than nothing. It's not a lot, but it's something at least. And that's why it's called what it is.
The second point is to explain my linking system. You may have noticed I am a little keen in my use of links, and for this I make no apologies. I love using Wikipedia to look up things I don't know, so I figure other people might. I like to aid them whenever I can by linking to things that they might not be entirely sure about. And even if you do already know a little about the subject, it's always nice to read up and learn more.
Words that are just linked almost always point to a Wikipedia or Dictionary entry, or a link to a previous blog entry. They tend to be things that if you know what I'm on about you can ignore, but if you don't you can click them to learn.
Words that preceed url's are offsite links, such as this excelent comedians website [rossnoble.co.uk]. The url's qouted are not the full url, but just a hint as to what the site is.
So, I hope that enlightens you as to some of the reasons and workings of this blog.
